Day & Night preschool lesson plans
Art Sun Art Have children paint a paper plate yellow. When dry, the children can add facial features with a marker. You may even glue yellow strips of paper around the edges for rays. Moon Art Have the children cut a paper plate in any shape for the moon. You can have them paint the moon a very light blue or gray. Sticker Stars Have the children place star stickers on a piece of black paper. Night Art Have children draw a picture on black paper with chalk or white crayons. Create a Constellation Have the children place star stickers on a piece of black paper. Have the children connect the stars with a white crayon. Sun or Moon Masks Have children paint a paper plate yellow or gray. Then cut out holes for eyes, and glue a popsicle stick on the back of the plate. Marshmallow Constellation Have children create 3-d constellations with marshmallows and toothpicks. Math/Science/Games Stars and Moons Sort Have the children sort stars and moons. You can buy plastic store bought stars and moons, or make your own out of construction paper. Constellation Fun You can create constellations by poling holes in construction paper, then place the paper over the end of a flash light. Constellation Fun 2 Use a nail to pole holes in the end of a Pringles can to create a constellation viewer. Children can view the constellation by looking into the Pringles can. Songs and Group Time Flashlight Fun Have the children bring in flashlights. Turn off the lights and let them shine their flashlights. Reach for the Stars Have the children pretend to catch stars. Ask them how many stars they caught. Decorations Decorate the room with glow in the dark stars and moons. Rooster Calls Have the children make rooster calls. Explain that roosters usually call out in the morning, when the sun rises. Mister Sun Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun, (Place hands over head to form sun) Please shine down on me. (Wiggle fingers while moving hands down) Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun,(Place hands over head to form sun) Hiding behind the tree. (Place hands over eyes) These little children are asking you, (Points to children) To please come out so we can play with you. (I don't know sign) Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun,(Place hands over head to form sun) Please shine down on,(Wiggle fingers while moving hands down) Won't you shine down on,(Wiggle fingers while moving hands down) Please shine down on me.(Point at self) Star Light, Star Bright Star Light, Star Bright First star I see tonight, Wish I may, Wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight.
